I purchased an “Acer Aspire TC-220 Desktop PC” from “Comtech” through “Idealo” on 22 November 2015. The computer (Hersteller-Nr DT.SYAEG.22) was listed with 8GB of RAM. On 27 November 2015, I discovered that the computer had only 4GB of RAM instead of 8GB of RAM as advertised and shown on the data plate. I reported this problem to “Idealo Kundenservice” on the same day. Over the period from 27 November until 8 December 2015, I provided Idealo Kundenservice and Comtech with photos and other information with which to clear up any questions on the matter. The only real assistance “Idealo Kundenservice” provided me during that period was to inform me repeatedly that they would contact Comtech. On 03.12.15 they wrote that Comtech would contact me telephonically the following day. They did not. At this point, I concluded that no real progress was being made by Idealo Kundenservice to resolve the problem with the defective product which they had sold to me. There was no indication that they were following up on the things which they reported to me on. On 04.12.15 I contacted “Comtech” directly. They notified me that they were waiting on the manufacturer, “Acer” and would contact me as soon as an answer was received. They did not. On 07.12.15 I was contacted by “ACER Repair Kundenservice” to send the computer to them. I assumed that they would examine the computer, determine that the RAM problem indeed existed and clear the way with Idealo/Comtec to replace the defective product. That did not happen. On 08.12.15, per the instructions which I received, I sent the computer without the accessories to Acer Repair. The confirmation of receipt by Acer Repair, as indicated in the instruction e-mail, was never received. I contacted Comtech later that day to determine what effect a possible repair of the computer would have on the two year guarantee period. Comtech’s reply was not satisfactory. I then came to the conclusion that neither Idealo Kundenservice nor Comtech were seriously attempting to resolve the problem and were only burning up the thirty day refund period. I decided at that point, to demand a refund, which I did on 08.12.15. On 10.12.15 my refund demand was acknowledged by Comtech with instructions to return the computer and accessories to them. I sent the accessories to Comech. I then informed Comtech that I had sent the computer to Acer Repair on 08.12.15 and the accessories to Comtech that morning. I also provided them with the postal receipts numbers and Auftragnummer from “Acer Repair” and suggested that they contact them. On 29.12.15, Idealo Kundenservice, in response to my telephonic inquiry on the status of my refund, informed me that the “Haendler” (Comtech), would make the refund upon receipt of the merchandise. I pointed out that I had already sent the computer to Acer Repair on 8.12.15 and the accessories to Comtech on 10.12.15 and that I was in possession of the postal receipts. They asked that I send the postal receipts to Comtech which I did. Keven Keller of the RMA Team at Comtech informed me that the accessories had been received by Comtech but the computer had not been received from me or Acer. I suggested that a phone call to Acer could clear the matter up. On 08.01.16, I inquired with Idealo Kundenservice as to the status of my refund. Kevin Keller of the the Comtech RMA Team replied, “Hello Mr. Eaton, as you were told before, we did not receive your computer as of yet. You need to contact Acer with your RMA / case number and ask them about the status.” It became exceedingly clear at that point, that neither Idealo Kundenservice nor Comtech, had made the slightest effort to inquire into the status of the computer, which had been in the possession of Acer Repair for the last 30 days, or attempt to accelerate the refund process. I contacted Acer repair and with some difficulty managed to determine that the computer had been repaired and would be sent back to Comtech the following Wednesday. I notified Idealo Kundenservice. On 14.01.16, after a 48 day delay, my 666.00 Euro refund from Comtech was credited to my PayPal account. I have spent over 20 years in retail management in the electronics field. From that experience, I am aware that sometimes things go wrong, for example, in this case, a defective product. My experience with Idealo and Comtech was a textbook example of how not to handle such problems. Even considering the holiday period, a 48 day delay for a refund is far too long and certainly is not a customer friendly solution. The role that Idealo played in the process was of no significant help and a waste of time.” They further, accomplished nothing in pursuit of solving the problem, outside of producing a large amount of unnecessary e-mail. Characteristic of Idealo Kundenservice was a statement made an Idealo representative, obviously annoyed, during one of my frequent telephonic contacts with them. “You know, you are not the only customer that we have to take care of”. The chief problem however, in my view, was Comtech. The absence of a proactive stance, as well as their lack of concern was apparent from my first contact with them. Advising me, the customer, to contact Acer on the status of their defective product was indicative of their overall attitude. A competent computer tech could have determined that the product had not been manipulated and that the defect existed within 10 minutes. If, as I suspect, the problem was incorrect size memory sticks, it could have repaired in 5 more minutes. The optimal solution to the problem would have been and should have been, to return the defective product, examine it, send a replacement back to the customer and then send the defective product to Acer. The whole procedure would have taken less than a couple of weeks without any risk to Comtech. This customer service disaster also casts a dark shadow on those firms who have associated themselves with Idealo and Comtech. I will never purchase another product through Idealo or from Comtech.
