I thought I had an appointment to view an apartment — or so I believed. But when I arrived, I ended up in an office, which immediately seemed suspicious. I had found the listing on eBay Kleinanzeigen. The title mentioned Wandsbek, but the actual description suddenly referred to Bramfeld. When I messaged the company or individual through eBay, I later couldn’t find any trace of the conversation in my messages — it had simply disappeared. There was already a woman sitting inside the office. While I was filling out the self-disclosure form, she came over, showed me the Google reviews, and warned me. That’s when it hit me. She was then called into a separate room. In the meantime, a small family entered. About five minutes later, the woman returned to the waiting area, stuck her head in, and simply said: “Scam.” That was the final red flag. I immediately packed my things, warned the family, demanded my self-disclosure form back, and left. Outside, I ran into the same woman again. She didn’t speak German very well and had asked for help with the paperwork. I’m not sure about all the details, but apparently they asked her to pay €78 upfront, with the rest — a total of €180 — due later. When she asked for her documents back, they told her they had already been “filed away” and refused to return them.
